One day in an English country school for boys and girls the teacher says to the children: “In the year there are four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In spring it does not snow, the sky is clear, the sun shines and there are many flowers in the fields and in the gardens. The birds come back from the south and sing beautiful songs. The weather is fine.Summer comes after spring. In summer it is hot. The sun shines and people like to go to the country. There they swim in rivers, lie in the sun, play tennis and other games. In autumn the leaves fall from the trees, the grass is yellow and brown. It often rains and the weather is often bad. But many people like autumn because it is the best time for apples, pears, plums and other fruit. In winter it is very cold and there is much snow in the fields and on the trees. Students and school-children have their winter vacation. They go skating or skiing. “Tom, you never listen! Stand up! Tell me, what is the best time for apples?” “The best time for apples is when the farmer is not at home and there is no dog in the garden,” answers Tom, and the children laugh.
